It sure looks like we're going to get a new city hall and a refurbished police station to the tune of what appears to be close to 10 mil. I don't deny there is a need to plan for the future, but our future doesn't look all that bright to me right now. Maybe someone knows something I don't. A new city hall will not produce a single dime to the income of the city. Nor will a police station for that matter. They can only cost money, not make money. Three council members oppose them but they can't stop them. I wish the others would give more consideration to the projects before passing them. I am a fiscal conservative and don't like taxes for the sake of allowing government to grow. Government is big enough already. There seems to be little interest from the public in these projects which surprises me. With our unemployment rate high and per capita income low, I would think there would be more voicing of negative sentiments. Maybe no one cares.
Not to mention the maintenance and upkeep required for a building of the value of the new City Hall. We overlook maintenance when we build something big and shiny. It takes big bucks to keep it that way. I can't believe there is no more resistance to this project.

What an incredible waste of money. Let me see if I have the logic involved.
Situation: The police have outgrown their downtown station.
Solution: Build a new city hall and put the police in the old city hall, which will in turn also require construction upgrades.
Why not just build a new police station on the bypass near the fire dept since town is growning south anyway? Keep the existing police station for detectives and such (or whatever makes the most sense), with the new station serving uniformed officers, or some variation that is most efficient.
This whole deal smells of the good ole boy syndrome, where someone is going to privately profit from the 10 million dollars the city will spend on this.
It is another example of the city leaders doing whatever they want, rather than what is best for the city.

People needs to call the 9 council member that voted for the new city hall, and tell them what they need to do.

Well maybe the contractor will hire some local workers. Other than this, it just allows the city spend more of our hard earned money. Oh well, I am not one of the one percent of the richest so I guess that I am not allowed to complain.
